Can I receive my test results by phone?

Due to confidentiality protocols, our administration team cannot provide test results over the phone without prior approval from your doctor. However, if you prefer, you can schedule a telephone appointment to discuss your results with your healthcare provider. This process ensures that accurate information is communicated directly by qualified medical personnel.

For any urgent or routine follow-ups, it is necessary to arrange an in-person appointment. If you are unable to visit the clinic due to illness, a telehealth consultation with your GP can be arranged. Please note that we do not typically send out follow-up notifications for normal results. If you are seeking your results and have not received a recall, you will need to schedule an appointment.

Do you have doctors who speak languages other than English?

We have receptionists, nurses and doctors who speak Cantonese and Mandarin.

How can I contact my GP?

Generally, most medical inquiries are not addressed over the phone. Please understand that doctors may be unavailable to take your calls while they are attending to patients. In many instances, our reception team can assist you with your questions.

Keep in mind that doctors often have packed schedules, so if they are unable to return your call, it may not happen until the following day. If your matter is urgent, we suggest scheduling an appointment to meet with your doctor directly.

Our privacy policy is accessible to all patients, and upon registering as a new patient, you will be required to acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy. If you would like a copy, please feel free to request one at the reception desk. Our privacy policy aligns with the standard practices for medical clinics across Australia.

All team members at James St Medical Northbridge must sign a confidentiality agreement before beginning their employment, and they cannot start work without this signed document. We adhere to all Australian regulations regarding patient confidentiality.

Our privacy policy is designed to meet both Federal and State legislation, ensuring that we provide high-quality healthcare while respecting your privacy. We assist our healthcare providers in managing health information ethically and legally, maintaining the highest professional standards. Privacy Policy Overview

Our medical centre is committed to upholding all confidentiality and privacy requirements. For more details, please refer to our Privacy Policy or inquire at the reception.

Personal health information includes any data related to your health, medical history, or past and present medical care that can identify you. This encompasses your current health status, medical background, and your preferences regarding current and future healthcare services.

All general practitioners and staff at our practice ensure that you can discuss your health concerns in a private setting, where relevant personal health information can be recorded without the risk of being overheard. Staff members will always knock or communicate with the GP before entering a consultation room.

Only clinical and administrative personnel who need to access personal health information to perform their job duties will be permitted to view, use, or disclose such information.

How can I obtain my medical records?

To request your medical records, you will need to fill out a request form and present a copy of your photo ID to verify your identity as the patient. Please note that there is an administrative fee associated with the release of records, whether to yourself or to another healthcare facility. Feel free to ask our reception team for the required paperwork.

How to Schedule an Appointment

You can easily book an appointment by visiting our website and navigating to the Book Now page, or by calling our Reception at (08) 6388 1168

If you need a longer appointment, please inform our reception staff so that we can allocate the appropriate time for you.

If you need to cancel your appointment, we kindly ask that you notify us as soon as possible, allowing us to offer that time slot to another patient. Please note that a fee may apply if you do not attend your appointment or if you provide less than two hours’ notice.

We also reserve a few slots for urgent appointments related to emergencies or pressing issues. If you have an urgent matter, please communicate this to us so we can assist you in scheduling a timely appointment. While we strive to accommodate requests for patients who are unwell, please remember that we do not operate as a walk-in clinic.

Prescriptions, Referrals, and Medical Certificates

If you require a referral to a specialist, we recommend scheduling an appointment with your doctor to discuss your needs. This ensures that your doctor can prepare a letter that includes all necessary information. Please be aware that it is against the law for us to backdate any referrals.

For prescription requests, we ask that you also arrange an appointment with your doctor. This is important as they need to assess whether the medication remains suitable, effective, and safe for you. If you are unable to visit the practice in person, you can set up a Telehealth appointment to request a prescription. James St Medical Northbridge offers E-Scripts, allowing your GP to send a script token directly to your phone for use at a pharmacy. Traditional paper prescriptions are still available upon request. Please note that our practice does not prescribe drugs of addiction.

If you need a medical certificate, you will need to make an appointment with doctor to confirm your unfitness for work. Please schedule a face-to-face or telehealth appointment for this purpose, and be aware that we cannot backdate these certificates.

Additionally, we do not accept requests for scripts or referrals via email; all requests must be made during a booked appointment.

Appointment Wait Times

Our doctors strive to stay on schedule, but delays can occur due to emergencies or unexpected illnesses among patients.

You can assist in minimizing wait times by requesting a longer appointment with the receptionist if you require a general check-up, have multiple concerns, or need a session that involves counseling.

Results and Recall

Should your doctor require a follow-up discussion regarding your results, one of our nurses will contact you to schedule an appointment. If you have not received any communication from our practice, please feel free to call our reception team for your results one week after your test has been conducted. For more detailed information, you may need to arrange an appointment with your doctor.

Due to privacy regulations, we cannot share any patient information, even with family members, without explicit consent. If you would like a family member to access your results, please inform our reception staff so that we can document this in your records.

To minimize disruptions, doctors are generally unable to take phone calls from patients during consultations. They will return your call at their earliest convenience. If your matter is urgent, please arrange an appointment with your doctor to discuss

Walk-In Visits

Our centre primarily functions on an appointment-only basis. While we do welcome walk-in patients, please be aware that there may be a wait time since those with scheduled appointments will be prioritized.

Patient Feedback and Complaints Procedure

We take pride in the services we offer and welcome any comments. If you wish to express a concern or file a complaint, please inform our reception staff, and they will supply you with a feedback form. Once completed, kindly return the form in a sealed envelope, and it will be forwarded to the practice manager.

You can expect a response to your complaint within 14 days, provided that your name and contacts are included on the form. Alternatively, you can email our Practice Manager at manager@jsmn.com.au.

Access to Personal Health Information

In accordance with privacy laws, you have the right to view your health information maintained by our practice. Upon request, your treating GP will provide you with a current and accurate summary of your health records whenever necessary.

Your GP will evaluate any requests to access your medical records, taking into account any potential risks of physical or mental harm that may arise from sharing your health information. If the GP determines that it is safe for you to access your records, they will either present the information to you directly or arrange for a photocopy, along with an explanation of its contents.

Our practice is committed to updating your personal health information upon your request, particularly for straightforward changes such as updating your address or phone number. For most requests to amend or correct information, the GP will make a note in your record to reflect the nature of the request and their agreement with it. However, for legal reasons, the original entry will remain unchanged.

We utilize an opt-out system for recalls and reminders. By choosing to be a patient at our practice, you consent to participate in this recall or reminder system. If you wish to opt out, please provide written notice to the practice, and your doctor will document this in your record.

Patients will be informed when quality improvement initiatives, professional development, or research activities are taking place and will have the option to opt out of participation. The GP overseeing these activities will ensure that relevant information is accessible to you through our reception staff.

In cases where research projects are conducted with the approval of an institutional ethics committee, our staff will be trained on the consent requirements outlined in the research protocol, ensuring that consent is properly obtained. Whenever feasible, identifying information will be removed from personal health data used for research and quality assurance activities. If removal is not possible, staff members who access personal health information are bound by confidentiality agreements, and any breaches may lead to immediate termination. The responsible GP will also ensure that any external researchers are bound by a written confidentiality agreement with appropriate penalties for any disclosures.
